
On the 7th March 2012, European Coordination Via Campesina and Nyéléni Europe organized a public conference in Brussels. The conference, entitled “More Farmers, Better Food” focused on the future of the Common Agriculture Policy and Food Sovereignty. The event was co-financed by the European Commission, aiming to present and to share the results of the Nyéléni Europe Forum (held in Krems, Austria in August 2011) with a larger public and also with the representatives of the European institutions.
The conference was hosted by the Committee of the Regions.
During the morning session the video “European Nyéléni Forum for Food Sovereignty" has been presented and the booklet, “Synthesis Report & Action Plan - Nyéléni Europe 2011: Forum for Food Sovereignty 16 - 21 August 2011, Krems, Austria" has been distributed.

Before the open debate with the representatives of the European institutions, the conference participants performed a theatrical scene depicting the situation about the corporate control over the food system. The participants underlined the capacity of people and farmers to resist and to transform the current food system and the to create/build better possibilities for farmers in the future.

In the afternoon, in the frame of the open debate on the future of CAP, the conference participants and the representatives of the most important European institutions had a very interesiting discussion, with the goal of steering the CAP reforms toward a local and a more ecological way of food production, distribution and consumption.
