Nyeleni ECA Thematic Webinar No4 [26.02.2025] - 47th Anniversary of CNA, Strategies influencing Land policies

 Webinar No4 [26.02.2025]

On 26 February 2025, the National Confederation of Agriculture (CNA) in Portugal marked its 47th anniversary by co-hosting an international webinar together with the Nyéléni Europe and Central Asia (ECA) network. The online event brought together experts, farmers, and activists from across the region to discuss Food Sovereignty, Peasant Rights, and Family Farming.

This timely dialogue celebrated CNA’s long-standing commitment to defending the rights of small and medium-scale farmers, while addressing the urgent need to fully implement the UN Declaration on the Rights of Peasants and Other People Working in Rural Areas (UNDROP). Speakers emphasized that family farmers play a vital role in protecting ecosystems, sustaining rural communities, and building just and resilient food systems.

The webinar featured insights from:

Geneviève Savigny, Chair of the UN Special Procedure Group of Experts on UNDROP

Miguel Viegas, Professor at the University of Aveiro

Ángeles Santos, Board Member of COAG (Spain)

Alfredo Campos, Coordinator of CNA’s National Council

The event highlighted the collective power of peasant movements and civil society to shape the future of food and agriculture through rights-based, sustainable approaches.

This webinar was part of Nyéléni ECA’s ongoing monthly thematic dialogues, aimed at fostering exchange, collaboration, and joint action for food sovereignty across Europe and Central Asia.
